W związku z tragiczną śmiercią dziennikarza śledczego Jána Kuciaka i jego partnerki zastępczyni RPO Hanna Machińska przekazała kondolencje Ombudsman Słowacji.

Ján Kuciak - dziennikarz śledczy piszący m.in. o oszustwach podatkowych na portalu Aktuality został zamordowany, a zabójstwo mogło mieć związek z jego pracą dziennikarską.

Dear Ms. Patakyová,

On behalf of the Commissioner for Human Rights of the Republic of Poland I would like to express our sorrow regarding the murder of investigative reporter Ján Kuciak and his partner Martina Kusnirova in their home in Slovakia. We would like to assure you of our full support and readiness to act on your side on this issue.

The murder of a journalist is a clear sign that crime is directed against one of the main pillars of freedom: freedom of expression and independence of media. In open, democratic societies journalists must be able to work freely and safely. This horrific crime calls for a determined investigation and the swift prosecution of those responsible.

My deepest sympathy goes out to the families and colleagues of Ján Kuciak and his partner. Please send them my deepest condolences.
