Nikiforos Diamandouros the European Ombudsman has informed of his intention to retire on 1 October 2013. He has been serving as Ombudsman since January 2003, when he was elected by the European Parliament as the successor of Jacob Söderman. Mr. Diamandouros was reelected to this post in 2005 and 2010.
