European Board Meeting of the IOI
On 17 September, 2014 the Human Rights Defender attended the European Board meeting of the International Ombudsman Institute held in Tallinn. The Board members discussed among others the implementation of the directive on Alternative Dispute Resolution and its implications for the ombudsman-community. Another issue discussed was the privatization of public services and the subsequent growing number of ombudsmen in some countries. A separate topic was the strengthening of cooperation between the IOI and other ombudsmen organizations. Furthermore the Human Rights Defender informed the Board about the current situation in Ukraine, including some humanitarian issues i.e. the growing number of IDPs, difficult social situation and the need for visible, coordinated help from EU Member States.
The Human Rights Defender also thanked the Board for its support given to Jana Dubovcová, Public Defender of Rights of the Slovak Republic during her cooperation with the national parliament.
